MASHPEE CONSERVATION LAND STEWARDS PROGRAM
Introduction:
The Mashpee Conservation Dept welcomes you to the Land Stewards Program. The Town of Mashpee has over 2,000 acres of conservation land, open space and federal partnership parcels. The Stewardship Program has been set up for the purposes of creating a cooperative effort to provide a positive presence on open space lands. It combines monitoring, reporting and minor maintenance activities into a team effort aimed at protection and preservation of these invaluable assets.
Land Stewards Role:
The primary responsibility of the land steward is caretaking, “to be a presence on the land”. There are currently many issues that are contributing to the degradation of our open space parcels, including illegal dumping, ATV/ORV usage, encroachment and vandalism. By fostering a responsible presence on our town’s open space lands, it is the goal of the Stewardship Program to curb these activities by increased monitoring, reporting and effective communication.
The Conservation Dept encourages the citizens of Mashpee to sign up for this initiative and take pride in our town’s natural scenic beauty by taking part in enhancement and monitoring activities. Together, we can protect our valuable natural resources and open space lands for current and future generations.
