Frequently Asked Questions
1.      How do I apply for a library card?
Cards are available free to any Massachusetts residents with proof of residence.  A photo ID such as a Massachusetts driver’s license is required at time of application.  Non-resident tax-payers also qualify for a free card. Other non-residents may obtain a one-year card with photo identification and payment of a nominal fee.  Parents must accompany their children and sign the library card application for minor children. Cards are issued to children after their fifth birthday.

2.      Can I check the library catalog from my home computer?
Yes, the library catalog is available on the Internet at www.clamsnet.org.  Once at that site, you can check library holdings for all Cape and Islands libraries, that are CLAMS members.  You may access your account using your library card number, on the back of your card and a four-digit pin number.

Check with library circulation staff to add a pin number to your card if you didn't add one when you registered for your card.  Staff can also enter a new PIN if you've forgotten the number. We can send email alerts for items on hold or overdue items.  Patrons using email notifications are very satisfied with the service. If you would like to receive email notices, ask the Circulation staff to add your email address to your record on your next visit to the library.

3.      Can I renew library materials by phone or online?
Yes, you can call the library at 508-539-1435 and request a two week extension for books, periodicals, CDs, cassettes.  Videos and DVDs are renewable for one week. Items with waiting lists are not renewable. Items obtained through the Virtual Catalog from non-Cape libraries are not renewable and must be returned to directly to Mashpee. You can renew CLAMS items online as well as check due dates and the status of reserve items, using your library card number and pin number on the library catalog page.

4.      How many items can I check out and what is the loan period?
You may check out fifteen books, audios, VHS tapes or periodicals and four DVDs at a time.  Loan periods are two weeks for books, periodicals and audio items. Videos and DVDs circulated for one week.

5.  Can I return items after hours?
The library has a drop boxon Joy St located on the sidewalk near the library door.  We appreciate it if you can secure audio cases with a rubber band to prevent them from opening up as they slide down the chute.  Museum passes, oversize books and bulky puppet kits should be returned inside the library.  The drop box is only available when the library is closed. Please bring returns inside during library hours.

Items can also be returned at other CLAMS libraries.  Sandwich Library is not part of CLAMS so items returned there may arrive in Mashpee after the due date and will incur a fine.  Be aware that items returned there close to the due date will probably be late because Sandwich Library cannot check them in on return as CLAMS' libraries can.

Please do not leave book donations in the box or outside the library entrances. Donations fill the drop box up and prevent patrons from being able to retun library materials.  Donations for the book sale are accepted during scheduled times prior to a book sale.

6. How do I make a Memorial or Celebratory donation to the library?
You may print off and complete one of the forms below.  The first form is for a memorial donation to the Library's Building Fund.  The Form and check, made out to the Friends of Mashpee Library, should be mailed to the address on the form.  Form 2 is to mark a happy occasion like a birth, a wedding or a significant anniversary with a donation to the Building Fund.

Form 3 is to add an item to the collection either in memory of someone or to honor a happy event such as a birthday or anniversary and the check is made out to Mashpee Public Library.  That form and check can be dropped off at the library or mailed to the address on the form.  Items added to the collection receive a Memorial Bookplate giving your name as donor and the name of the person being honored.

You will receive an acknowledgement of your tax-deductible gift.  Notification will also be sent to the family of the person being memorialized.
